Bishop Blackall School is a former Edwardian school and detached headmaster’s house in Exeter within easy walking distance of both Exeter University and the city centre. Bishop Blackall School was purchased by Campbell Property on behalf of an institutional investor in 2010. The asset, which consisted of the main school building and a detached former headmaster’s house was converted in 2011 to provide 114 bedrooms across 22 apartments.
The conversion included the introduction of a mezzanine level to the three primary wings of the main building, creating an additional 23 rooms over 3 apartments. A bridge style extension connected the former headmaster’s house to the main building and provided an additional bedroom, whilst the large Edwardian corridors were converted into additional bedrooms or living space. A sympathetic approach to the conversion retained many of the existing features and incorporated these into the design.
